Aaron Hanson - Elder

Aaron became an elder in 2013.  He was born and raised in the western hills of Maine as the middle child with four siblings.  He earned a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Maine at Orono and a Th.M.  in systematic theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.  

He was married in 2004 to Anna. They have foour children, Noelle, Rein, Qoheleth and Evangeline. He is passionate about deep questions, education, and literature.  He is currently serving as headmaster at a classical Christian school, Mirus Academy, located in Ellsworth, Maine.

Ed Noonan - Elder

Ed was raised in Framingham Massachusetts, went to college at UMass Amherst and graduated with a B.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management, 1984. He currently works for the Bar Harbor Hotel in downtown Bar Harbor. He is a resident of Mount Desert and has been attending SWHCC since 2016. He has been married to Christine Noonan since 1990 and together they have two children, Clark and Allison. Among the activities that Ed enjoys is cooking, BBQ, walking with Chris, football, playing cards and reading.

Marc Woolfolk - Elder

Marc has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Rutgers University and an MBA in finance from NYU.  After working for Bankers Trust and CIBC as a risk manager and convertible bonds trader in New York city,  he moved to Connecticut with his wife, Claire, and their two children, Beth and Matthew in 1997 to help manage a hedge fund.  In 2008, he and his family moved to Mount Desert Island and began attending Southwest Harbor Congregational Church that same year.  Marc loves nature and hiking throughout Acadia National Park. Additionally, he is an avid guitar player.

Steven Philbrook

Steven Philbrook grew up in Warren, ME.  He attended Gordon College and graduated with a BS in English and Biblical and Theological Studies in 1988 and in 1994  he completed a certification degree in high school English at the University of Southern Maine.  In 1989 he and his wife Amy  moved to Little Cranberry Island where he became a lobsterman. They have four grown sons, Abraham, Peter, Isaac and Nathanael and three grandchildren.  Steven loves reading and writing.  He remains active by playing basketball, surfing, hiking, skiing, trail running, biking and gardening with friends and family.

Blake Brown - Pastor

Blake has been the pastor of Southwest Harbor Congregational Church since July of 2003. After being called into the ministry from a career that included Pitney Bowes, Taco Bell and HR consulting, he attended Seminary at Gordon Conwell on Boston’s North Shore Graduating with a Master’s of Divinity with an emphasis in Old Testament studies.    

Blake and his wife Carrie have three children, Avonlea, Jack and Finnegan. He enjoys reading, long-distance cycling, working on his 1973 MG Midget, kayaking and spending time with his family.

Henry Chung - Elder

Henry was born and raised in Hong Kong.  He came to the U.S. for college and graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in Psychology, a B.A. in Sociology and a M.B.A..  He is married to Teresa Chu, Ph.D..  He became an elder in 2005 and is the current Treasurer.

    He likes singing and is a member of the praise team and other choral groups in the area.  He also enjoys hiking, photography and duplicate bridge.  He is currently working in the Human Resources department of The Jackson Laboratory.

Office Manager

Dori began working as the Office Manager in 2001. She grew up in Freeport, Maine and graduated from Barrington College in Rhode Island. Dori has 2 grown children, Marguerite in NC and Joshua in Kennebunk, ME. Dori enjoys her family, her grandchildren and her church family.

Anna Hanson

Director of Youth and Christian Education

Anna Hanson is a native to Maine, and enjoys all that the coast of Maine has to offer.  She attended the University of Maine with a degree in Human Development and Family relations and a masters degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in Biblical Studies.  She is grateful to the Lord for her amazing husband and four children.  She enjoys music, theater and is passionate about women’s discipleship.

As the Deacon of Technology, Matt oversees all audio, visual and computer technologies associated with the church as well as any additional requests as needed which serves the church body.

Chris Noonan

Deacon of Hospitality

Chris grew up in Milford, NH, went to college at The University of New Hampshire.  She works for the concessions company that operates inside Acadia National Park.  She lives in Mount Desert and has been attending Southwest Harbor Congregational Church since 2016.  She has been married to Ed Noonan since 1990 and together they have two children, Clark and Allison.  She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, baking and taking walks with Ed.  

As the Deacon of Hospitality, Chris helps to coordinate activities that help to facilitate true Christian fellowship and intimacy within the body of SWHCC. 

Dawn Carroll

Deacon of Local Outreach

Dawn grew up in Trenton, Maine.  She attended University College of Augusta and Pierre’s School of beauty where she graduated with a degree in Cosmetology.  After spending 10 years in the field of cosmetology Dawn pursued a career in the insurance industry and is now employed by Marsh where she is a Client Advisor specializing in yacht insurance.  Dawn married her high school sweetheart Wesley in 2000.  They have two daughters Gillian and Leah.  Dawn enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching volleyball and basketball (especially when her girls are playing), running, hiking, scrapbooking, and spending time near or on the water.  Dawn became a member of SWHCC in 2012 and is currently serving as the Deacon of Local Outreach.

 

As the Deacon of Local Outreach, Dawn helps to develop opportunities for the church to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the local communities of Mount Dessert Island as well as overseas the distribution of the benevolence fund when requests come from the community.

Dori Williams

Deacon of Christian Missions

Dori has been a member of Southwest Harbor Congregational Church for over 25 years. She grew up in Freeport, Maine and graduated from Barrington College in Rhode Island. Dori has 2 grown children, Marguerite in NC and Joshua in Kennebunk, ME. Dori enjoys her family, her grandchildren and her church family.

 

As the Deacon of Christian Missions, Dori oversees the identification of new missionaries and ongoing support of our current missionaries.

Joan Tukey

Deacon of Records

Joan grew up in Connecticut.  After receiving a BA from the University of Miami and an MBA from Florida International University, she married her husband Tom in 1981.  She moved to Maine in 2008 following a career in corporate banking and finance.  Joan enjoys being outdoors; observing wildlife and spending time in the mountains and by the sea.   She is happy to be able to assist the church with its record keeping as Clerk and Deacon of Records.

As the Deacon of Records (aka: clerk), Joan oversees all record keeping of the church.

As the Deacon of Congregational Care, Marc oversees the general care and physical needs of the congregation. 

As the Deacon of Music, Marc, in coordination with the Pastor, plans and provides God glorifying music for our weekly worship service
